kPa are appointed to condition survey, measure and back analyse this industrial building for reuse. Reusing is the ultimate recycling and for this site we were able to demonstrate the existing building could be reused for more modern cladding systems and undergo significant structural alteration.
The steelwork condition was acceptable and with refurbishment and minor strengthening the analysis could demonstrate compliance with current design standards.
Such an approach will achieve significant costs savings and reduction in planning restrictions. Also and more importantly a massive reduction in embodied energy can be achieved compared to rebuilding.
