Portal House West Wales

kPa are appointed at structural engineers for the new exciting home overlooking the Irish Sea. Hyde + Hyde Architcets are leading this indoor outdoor beach side forever home.

This is a zero energy home nestled along a steep hillside in a remote part of the UK, overlooking the Irish Sea.

Variable ground conditions and steep slopes make foundations a challenge to prevent movement to the extensive glazing.

Piles and reinforced substructure with cantilevering concrete slabs create the floating illusion and support the steel frame.

The steel frame to provides the structure to the open rooms and long cantilever floating canopy.

Rear rooms built into the rear bank are of reinforced concrete to create retaining walls and support the green roof over.

Next to the infinity pool, a storm shelter cantilevers out from the hillside. A place for the brave, a space for solitude among the unrelenting forces of nature.

Again a floating feel to this structure is given by a piled reinforced conctere substructure and core with hanging steel frame and cantilevering wings.
